Magic, music, and a bit of luck

Hey, how’s your week going? Our latest issue is out, and we’re talking about second homes. Our publisher reflects on how a change of scenery can rejuvenate life, and our editor is looking back on a year that was anything but predictable.

Teslas are officially the most popular car in Seattle, but not everyone is happy about it — something we’ve been debating in the office, since two of our staff drive them. Meanwhile, this story is making me wish I skied. And tipping — are we over it?

If you’re trying to shake off winter, we’ve got a list of five things to do this season.

Now, onto the Must List…

Poster for "Mickey 17" by Bong Joon Ho. Features a person in a futuristic outfit with goggles, standing before an intricate pattern on a yellow background. Mark your must-list for the premiere on 03-13-2025!.

Mickey 17

Now-March 27
SIFF Cinema Downtown
$15+

Bong Joon-ho (Parasite) takes on sci-fi with Robert Pattinson as an expendable space worker who keeps getting resurrected. It’s based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7 and everyone seems to be talking about it. I saw Parasite and liked it, but I’ll never watch it again — too stressful. I’m so curious about this one.

Dancers gracefully perform on stage under dramatic lighting, with a glowing circle shimmering in the background. The word "emergence" appears prominently at the top, capturing the essence of creativity's evolution, just like a must-list for any event seeker.

Emergence

March 14-23
McCaw Hall
$30+

Emergence is back after seven years, with Crystal Pite’s stunning piece inspired by the movement of insects. That alone is worth seeing. It’s paired with Jerome Robbins’ dreamy Afternoon of a Faun, Marco Goecke’s moody Mopey, and a world premiere from PNB’s Price Suddarth. If you’ve never let dance completely take over your brain, this might be the one.

In March 2025, people enthusiastically march in a Saint Patrick's Day Parade, proudly carrying a banner from the Irish Heritage Club. With flags waving and trees lining the route, it's an event must list for anyone celebrating Irish culture.

Saint Patrick’s Day Parade

March 15, 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m.
Begins at Fourth Avenue and James Street
Free

Everyone loves a parade. Or at least, everyone loves an excuse to wear green and cheer while bagpipes blast through downtown. The parade kicks off at Fourth Avenue and James Street, making its way north to Westlake Park. The Irish Festival at Seattle Center is happening all weekend, too, with live music, step dancing, and cultural exhibits if you want to keep the celebration going.

Tribute poster spotlighting four performers with microphones and instruments. Text: "Erykah Badu Tribute, Saturday March 15, Royal Room." Includes names and roles of musicians. A must-list event of 2025!.

Erykah Badu Tribute

March 15, 9 p.m.
The Royal Room
$20+

Seattle musicians are taking over the Royal Room for a night of Badu-inspired music. Led by Sheila Kay, this tribute brings an all-star band and a setlist that’ll do her justice. Did you catch her on Tiny Desk a few years ago? Captivating. This feels like the kind of night you’ll want to sink into.

A person in dark clothing sits on the grass, leaning against a reflective mirrored structure. Under a cloudy sky, with distant mountains in the background, this serene scene feels like it's part of everyone’s must list for moments of quiet reflection.

Scott Silven

March 19-23
Erickson Theatre Off Broadway
$55+

Scott Silven doesn’t pull rabbits out of hats — he gets inside your head. A mix of mentalism, storytelling, and some kind of dark magic that’ll leave you questioning reality, his show has been called “a marvel” by The New York Times.

A bright yellow sun with the text "A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry" shines above a row of illustrated houses against a blue background, perfectly capturing the essence of this classic must-list play set to mesmerize audiences once again on 03-13-2025.

A Raisin in the Sun

March 19-April 19
Taproot Theatre
$25+

Big moment for Taproot Theatre — it just finished renovating its Jewell Mainstage, and this is the first production in the upgraded space. Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun follows a Black family in 1950s Chicago as they fight for a better future. It was groundbreaking when it premiered, and it still hits hard today.

Fave Five: Settling into Fall

Fave Five: Settling into Fall

Warm light, early sunsets, and the comfort of small adventures.

September and October are my favorite months in Seattle. It’s still lovely outside—plenty of sun—but the air is cooler. I find myself scanning the day for something good to do before dark: a last farmers market tomato, a long walk, or a reason to make soup. It reminds me of childhood, squeezing in one more…

A fall season opener, Taste of the Sound, Downton’s farewell

Fall is just about here, showing itself in the chill of early mornings and the fog that settles over the city. It’s the season when Seattle feels like the center of the art world. We dropped into Pioneer Square to catch fashion at its most fun during First Thursday Art Walk, rounded up this season’s…

Seattle’s biggest gaming convention brings fans, creators, and community together

Games are big business in the Seattle area.  The city is home to many major gaming studios such as Bungie, Nintendo, Valve, and Wizards of the Coast, plus a thriving independent developer scene. Maybe it’s the rainy weather (or all the coffee) that fosters creativity and draws people together to play their favorite games, whether…
