Fall is just about here, showing itself in the chill of early mornings and the fog that settles over the city. It’s the season when Seattle feels like the center of the art world. Here are five more things to do this week.

Hi. Hope you’re finding little ways to enjoy this stretch of late summer, even if it’s just taking the long way home or picking a few blackberries before they disappear. (Mine never quite make it home.)

We’ve been covering some fun things lately: a creepy Alien: Earth stunt downtown, Alaska Airlines’ new direct international flights, and an urban canoeing adventure. And if you missed the recap of the AAJA convention, it’s worth a read — a reminder of how strong and wide the journalism community really is.

Now here’s what’s happening this week:

Colorful poster for the South Lake Union Block Party—featured in the Must List—on August 8th, 11AM–10PM. Enjoy live music, free admission, and a crowd at sunset in front of the stage!.

Urban Craft Uprising is hosting its mini market, and performers include Prom Date Mixtape, 90s Rewind, Hockey Teeth, and more. It started small and now draws thousands, and it still feels like a big neighborhood hang. Bonus: dogs are welcome.

A purple glass float wrapped in netting rests on a rock outdoors, with a blue sky in the background. A circular "West Seattle Glass Float Hunt" logo is in the top left corner—add this to your Must List for 08-07-2025!.

Each float is stamped with a heart and “WS,” sealed in a mesh bag, and features a QR code to register your find and reveal its sponsor. Daily clues go live at 9 a.m. via the event site, and the live map shows claimed treasures in real time.

It’s one of just 12 no-fee days in 2025, and happens to be Smokey Bear’s birthday (he’s 81 and still not retired). Take a hike, dip in a lake, or throw a picnic — whatever feels good. Just remember: Only you can prevent birthday cake fires.

The city feels buzzy right now, like we’re catching summer at full tilt.

If you’re trying to keep up, here are a few stories to catch this week: The West Seattle Glass Float Hunt starts Aug. 8 and will be very fun. We also ran an essay about preparing to send your kid off to sleepaway camp. (Oof. The good kind of heartbreak.) And our two latest Top Docs Q&As are up — Dr. Mary Ann Pefanco and Dr. Meghan Nadeau.

Now, here’s this week’s Must List.

Five men stand together against a plain white background, dressed in casual and semi-formal clothing, facing the camera—a Must List shot to remember on 07-31-2025.

Death Cab for Cutie

Aug. 2, 8 p.m.
Climate Pledge Arena
$59+

Twenty years ago, Plans came out and promptly wrecked all of us. Now Death Cab for Cutie is playing the whole album live. Nation of Language will be opening. If you’re even a little nostalgic, it’s worth the ticket.

A collage featuring camping gear, tools, and snacks surrounds the title "The Grown-Ups" by Simon Henriques & Skylar Fox, with a burning edge on the top right corner—a definite Must List pick for 07-31-2025.

The Grown-Ups

Now-Aug. 10
Various parks around Seattle
$25+

The campers are asleep, the counselors are making s’mores and trying to hold it together. The Grown-Ups follows a group of staffers at a summer camp trying to shape the future — while the world around them falls apart. It’s smart, funny, and outdoors, with real (or theatrical) fire. We’re very into the premise.

A person leans back dramatically in a dimly lit setting with bold text overlay reading "THE DOUBLE" and "AN IMMERSIVE THEATER EXPERIENCE." Don’t miss this Must List event on 07-31-2025.

The Double

Now-Aug. 10
LIT Immersive, Seattle
$42+

The Double is an immersive thriller set inside an abandoned office — the kind with flickering fluorescents and glitchy monitors — where something’s clearly off. Inspired by Dostoyevsky’s novella, the story unfolds around you as you explore: sit at a desk, open files, watch the characters move behind glass. There’s even a cocktail bar built into the experience. It sounds so strange and unforgettable, and there’s no stage or assigned seating.

A person with a semi-transparent, abstract body sits on a yellow chair. Dark, swirling shapes hang above them, releasing black drips—a must list visual for 07-31-2025.

Spirit House

Now-Jan. 11, 2026
Henry Art Gallery, Seattle
Free

Spirit House brings together 33 Asian American and diasporic artists exploring what it means to move between worlds: to speak to ghosts, to inhabit haunted spaces, to be reincarnated, or transformed. The show is inspired by the tiny spirit houses found all over Thailand — built to give shelter to the unseen. It’s about memory, ritual, and the places where life and death blur.

Outdoor stage at Watershed Music Festival at The Gorge—a Must List experience on 07-31-2025—with a large crowd, sunset sky, mountains in the background, and the festival logo displayed above.

Watershed

Aug. 1-3
Gorge Amphitheatre
$44+

Go get hot. Stand in the sun and the dust, scream the lyrics, and wear your cowboy boots. Watershed’s back at the Gorge for its 13th year, with Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Bailey Zimmerman, and Washington’s own honky tonk king Zach Top. Find the full lineup here.

Collage of people at an outdoor festival with kids, balloons, and bikes. Text reads "Magnolia Summerfest August 1, 2 & 3" with a red circus tent graphic. A Must List event—mark your calendars for 07-31-2025!.

Magnolia Summerfest

Aug. 1-3
Magnolia Playfield
Free

If you want a festival without chaos, this one’s for you. Magnolia’s been throwing this neighborhood party for over 60 years, and it’s all very charming — vintage cars, a kids’ parade, an art walk, and a beer garden tucked right into the village. It’s summer in Seattle, exactly how you want it.

Summer’s flying by — July’s nearly over, can you believe it? The good news is Seattle’s making the most of it, with no shortage of ways to stay busy and get outside. This week, we’ve got a look at a $50 million investment in the city’s art scene, some new places to eat, and a powerful film making the festival rounds after its Tribeca debut. Plus, our social media manager Emma stepped out from behind the camera to share her take on the newly reopened Pier 58.

Here’s what else we’re loving this week.

Bellevue Arts Fair Weekend poster, a Must List pick, features event dates—07-24-2025 to July 27—and bold text with colorful geometric art elements at the bottom.

Bellevue Arts Fair Weekend

July 25-27
Bellevue Square
Free

The Bellevue Arts Fair began under a madrona tree in 1947 and now spans Bellevue Square with more than 350 artists showing and selling their work. Visitors can expect to see glass blowers, printmakers, ceramicists, and a wide range of other artists. The fair also includes live music, food trucks, and hands-on art activities.

Two men stand outdoors in front of the Space Needle; one holds a violin and bow, the other wears an apron and holds a frying pan and rolling pin. Don’t miss this Must List moment—save the date: 07-24-2025!.

Tasting Notes II

Friday, July 25, 7 p.m.
Benaroya Hall
$80+

What happens when a chef, a violinist, and a string quartet walk into Benaroya Hall? You get Tasting Notes II, a one-night-only event that combines live chamber music, cooking demonstrations, and curated snacks. Hosted by Seattle Chamber Music Society and James Beard Award-winner J. Kenji López-Alt, the evening brings top Seattle chefs and musicians together on stage for food, music, and conversation. All guests are invited to enjoy a post-show chocolate tasting and Detroit-style pizza.

A woman with long curly hair wearing a denim jacket and a black top poses in front of a plain background—a must list look for 07-24-2025.

Kate Berlant Live!

Friday, July 25, 7 p.m.
Neptune Theatre
$39+

Kate Berlant is one of those performers who is funny before she even speaks. You may recognize her from The Characters on Netflix, or from Would It Kill You to Laugh? on Peacock. Now she brings her smart, strange, and hilarious comedy to the Neptune Theatre for one night. You’ll laugh a lot — and also probably whisper “what is happening” to the person next to you.

Illustration promoting "Bite of Seattle," a Must List event happening July 25-27, 07-24-2025, at Seattle Center, featuring the Space Needle and city buildings against a bright yellow background.

Bite of Seattle

July 25-27
Seattle Center
Free

Bite of Seattle runs for three days and features more than 300 food vendors, five music stages, and several beer and cider gardens. Admission is free, but with more than 350,000 attendees each year, the event can be crowded and chaotic. It’s best approached with either a plan or a willingness to eat pad Thai for dessert and churros for lunch.

Promotional poster for Jazz Night in Pioneer Square featuring event details, free admission, 07-24-2025 date, time, and a Must List of participating artists, with a drum set in the background.

Jazz Night

Tuesday, July 29, 6 p.m.
Pioneer Square
Free

After a packed debut in February, the summer edition transforms a Tuesday evening into a jazzy block party. Attendees can enjoy trumpet solos, upright bass, and surprise duets filling the streets. Jazz Night will feature thirteen acts across thirteen venues in Pioneer Square. Organized by the Seattle Jazz Fellowship and the Alliance for Pioneer Square, this is one of the few true jazz events happening in Seattle this summer. Dress up, grab a drink, and enjoy the atmosphere.

A performer in a pink dress sings on stage under dramatic lighting, as “& Juliet” and “Paramount Theatre Seattle” Must List appear onscreen. Two actors stand in the background. Don’t miss this show on 07-24-2025!.

& Juliet

July 29-Aug. 3
Paramount Theatre
$63+

What if Juliet broke up with Romeo and went dancing to Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own”? That’s the premise of & Juliet, a pop-fueled remix of Shakespeare’s tragedy. The show features songs by Swedish pop songwriter Max Martin, including hits from Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and Celine Dion. Bring your Shakespeare-loving friend — or go solo and dance in your seat.

It’s so hot. My kids haven’t left the inflatable pool and are living on popsicles. If you’re escaping the sun and relaxing in the shade, check out our stories on what not to miss at Seattle Art Fair this year, and how Trailhead Direct can save you from mountain parking stress.

Now, seven ways to fill your week:

Seattle Art Fair 2025 event graphic features a bold orange and light blue diagonal background, large stylized text, event dates 07-17-2025 to July 20, and is a Must List pick for art enthusiasts.

Seattle Art Fair

Now-July 20
Lumen Field
$50+

I always think I’ll just swing through — but every year, I end up skipping meals and staying for hours. Founded by Paul Allen in 2015, this showcase has become a Pacific Northwest arts anchor. Expect neon, glass, photography, and 80+ galleries packed into Lumen Field. It’s big, glossy, and everything you want from an art experience.

Must List: Sticker for the 2025 Strawberry Festival on Vashon Island, dated 07-17-2025, is placed over strawberry plants, with two ripe strawberries visible among green leaves.

Strawberry Festival

July 18-20
Ober Park
Free

An island tradition dating back to 1909 (or maybe 1912 — the history’s a little fuzzy), Vashon’s Strawberry Festival is pure small-town summer. Take the water taxi over for a parade, strawberry shortcake, and a reason to put on something pretty and wander. Honestly, is there a better way to spend a warm Seattle weekend?

A stylized image of a dancer in regalia with large feathered wings advertises a 2025 powwow Must List event held July 18-20, with event times and entry details listed below.

Seafair Indian Days Powwow

July 18-20
Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center
Free

You’ll hear the drums before you even get there. Hosted by United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, this three day gathering fills Discovery Park with drumming, dancing, and food. The powwow draws 400-600 dancers in full regalia, 25 drum groups, and around 10,000 viewers, all celebrating the richness of Native culture. A Seattle tradition for over 35 years, it fosters community connection across generations.

A colorful Must List poster details performers and event info for Capitol Hill Block Party, taking place 07-17-2025 in Seattle, featuring headliners Thundercat and Porter Robinson.

Capitol Hill Block Party

July 19-20
Capitol Hill
$147+

From a scrappy 1997 street fest to the giant music takeover it is now, CHBP is peak summer fun. Last year, we camped out by the food stalls and let the crowd carry us from stage to stage. This year’s 21+ event brings Thundercat, Anderson.Paak (as DJ Pee. Wee), and two days of sweaty, nonstop music. Plan on lines, loud sets, and loving every second of it.

Illustration of people by the waterfront with mountains and a ferry in the background; text reads "Sketcher Fest Edmonds," an international travel sketchbook festival in Edmonds, Washington—perfect if you’re looking for what to do in Seattle this week.

Sketcher Fest Edmonds

July 19-20
Graphite Arts Center
$25+

Led by Gabi Campanario, the original Seattle Sketcher from The Seattle Times, this art fest has grown into North America’s premiere travel sketchbook festival. Expect workshops, talks, and market browsing, with artists from Barcelona to the French Air Force (seriously). It’s a casual, community-focused event. This is artists coming together in the best way, for the best reasons — to talk art, make art, and share it.

A colorful poster for the Seattle Chinatown Seafair Parade on 07-17-2025, featuring a woman in a festive dress and a performer in a traditional Chinese lion costume—an event to add to your Must List!.

Chinatown Seafair Parade

July 20, 7 p.m.
Seattle Chinatown-International District
Free

Floats, lion dancers, marching bands — it’s everything you want from a parade, but with the energy only the CID can pull off. It’s been part of Seafair since the 1970s and winds through some of the city’s best food streets. Go hungry and stay for the lion dances. They always get me — the drums and dragons are pure, priceless joy.

Purple graphic with "Seattle" and "Project 48 Hour" above an eagle emblem, celebrating 20 Years. Must List: Mark your calendar for 07-17-2025.

Seattle 48 Hour Film Project

July 21-23
SIFF Cinema Uptown
$12+

Twenty years of chaos filmmaking: teams get two days to make a short film, and you get to watch what they came up with. Screenings run all week at SIFF Cinema Uptown. I’ve never been, but this sounds wild and fun — I’m dying to check it out this year. Who’s with me?

Hey, how’s it going?

We’ve got good stuff this week: Susan Lieu is stepping in as interim director at Theatre Off Jackson (a personal hero of mine), and you can hear about the gig in her own words right here. And have you seen the new cloud installation at the Seattle Art Museum? It’s delightful.

Our new issue is out too! The theme is healthcare, and our 25th annual Top Doctors list is in. Be sure to read our Publisher’s Note, where he shares his full, glorious beauty routine. Pick up a copy wherever you get your magazines — and don’t forget to hydrate.

Here’s what to do this week.

A person in a chicken costume faces a man wearing a cap, both laughing, with red stage curtains in the background—one of the fun things to do in Seattle for those seeking quirky entertainment.

Birds of Play

July 10-19
Seattle Public Theater
$40+

Joy Rides (aka Tanya Gagné) and her chicken Goldie are back from America’s Got Talent and ready to shake things up in this circus cabaret. With aerial acts and magic, it’s strange and beautiful and everything art should be.

Illustrated octopus with intricate patterns holding an anchor, "Ballard SeafoodFest" text above on a blue background, boat and seagulls in the scene—a must list event happening 07-10-2025.

Ballard SeafoodFest

July 11-13
Ballard

Three days of music, craft booths, beer gardens, and the famous alder-smoked salmon BBQ. Ballard turns into a street party, and I think we can all get behind that. Start making room in your stomach now.

Must List: Don’t miss Shakespeare in the Park, featuring "Much Ado About Nothing," "Richard III," "A Midsummer Night’s Dream," and "The Taming of the Shrew," July 11–Aug 16. Free admission. Mark your calendar for 07-10-2025!.

Shakespeare in the Park

July 11-Aug 16
Several Seattle-area parks
Free

It’s not summer in Seattle without GreenStage. This year’s free shows include Much Ado About Nothing and Richard III. The scaled-down Backyard Bard shows are A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Taming of the Shrew, all performed in parks throughout the region. Bring snacks, a blanket, and someone who knows how to shush.

Colorful illustration of animals with floral patterns surrounds bold text that reads “Wild in Wallingford 2025 Parade” on a yellow background. A must list event happening on 07-10-2025!.

Wild in Wallingford Parade

Saturday, July 12, 11 a.m.
Wallingford
Free

Expect costumes, bubbles, bands, dogs, and probably someone on stilts. This fun neighborhood parade has been rolling through Wallingford for more than 70 years, starting as the city’s only kiddie parade. Now produced by the new nonprofit Celebrate Wallingford, it anchors a full day of block parties and community events.

A man in a patterned shirt and beret stands in profile holding a saxophone against a plain background—a true Must List moment for 07-10-2025.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley

Tuesday, July 15, 8 p.m.
Tractor Tavern
$38.47

A pioneer of Ghanaian highlife and the first artist to fuse it with rap and jazz, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has been making music since the 1970s and shows no signs of slowing down. This will be an incredible show. Don’t miss it.

Book cover of "Positive Obsession: The Life and Times of Octavia E. Butler" by Susana M. Morris, two portraits of women, a "Must List" label, and details for the author event at Lake Forest Park on 07-10-2025.
